Did You Know?
The alcohol content in liquor is sometimes indicated by degrees of proof, which in North America is a figure twice as high as the percentage. So, 80-proof liquor (like the bottle of Wild Turkey on the left) is 40 percent alcohol, 100-proof is 50%, 120-proof is 60%, and it keeps going... and now you know!

ANBL Launches Occasions – A Food & Drink Magazine...
Alcool NB Liquor is pleased to announce the launch of Occasions magazine. This New Brunswick focused food and drink magazine makes its way into ANBL Corporate stores across the province today and is free of charge."We are extremely proud of Occasions", said Dana Clendenning, President & CEO. "This customer service based initiative provides another opportunity to educate and entertain our customers with interesting and current information about food and drink."
Featured in the inaugural Summer ’07 issue is a guest editorial from Herménégilde Chiasson, Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick as well as articles on Hotel Paulin, Caraquet, NB and Wolfhead Smokers, Letang, NB. Local micro brew success stories; Picaroons and Pump House are also featured. The Australian wine country, the screw cap versus cork controversy and berry flavored wines round out the editorial focus. Special summer recipes include New Brunswick style Cowboy Cuisine, summer dips, caesars and tasty summertime bar drinks.
Originally developed by Transcontinental Publications for the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission in 2005, Occasions has had success with the 10 issues that have been published to date. In the fall of 2006, Transcontinental approached ANBL with the concept of rolling out an Occasions magazine in New Brunswick.
"To publish such a high quality consumer magazine in New Brunswick at little cost to ANBL was an opportunity we were very eager to explore," said Linda Stafford, Social Responsibility and Publications Officer. "Economies of scale, shared resources and story lines allow Occasions to reflect its distinctive New Brunswick flair".
Each issue of Occasions will feature New Brunswick restaurants, food and drink inspired articles to engage the senses as well as International spotlights. Product profiles, entertaining tips along with mouth-watering recipes will inspire everyone from the casual host to seasoned food lovers. The Pride of New Brunswick feature will showcase local artisan food purveyors and beverage alcohol producers. Occasions will be published seasonally, four-times a year.
Occasions will be officially launched at a special reception in Fredericton on June 27, 2007.
The Occasions magazine will be available at all ANBL Corporate stores, while quantities last. Archived issues of Occasions can be found on www.anbl.com.
ANBL wishes to remind its customers that drinking in moderation is always in good taste.
